CITES MIKE E-learning

The CITES Monitoring the Illegal Killing of Elephants (MIKE) Programme monitors trends in illegal killing of elephants and helps build capacity in sites spread across the range of African and Asian elephants. Information from MIKE is used by CITES Parties to inform decision-making on elephant conservation and management.

This e-learning platform aims to assist MIKE site officers, national wildlife agency staff and other protected area practitioners to strengthen the protection and management of MIKE sites and other protected areas. There are two types of learning module:

  • MIKE courses: The courses address key aspects of MIKE site monitoring, law enforcement and wildlife crime prevention. Participants receive a certificate on successful completion of the course learning activities.
  • MIKE guides: The guides look at some key tools used in the implementation of MIKE.

The courses and guides are presently only offered in English.

You need to register on the platform to access the courses and guides. If you've not already done so, sign up here. It's free!

CITES is grateful to GIZ and the European Union for support in developing the platform.
